Herb Ohta Jr.'s passion for music was clear from an early age. His grandmother taught him his first song, "Happy Birthday," on the ‘ukulele when he was just three. His father, Ohta-San, provided his early lessons, and Herb later studied music through viola in high school. He also participated in The Honolulu Boys Choir, The Honolulu Children’s Opera Chorus, and The University High School Select Choir.
Kama Hopkins grew up in a family filled with Hawaiian music and hula. By day, he is the Trust Services Manager for the King Lunalilo Trust and Home. By night, he is a musician. He has been playing music professionally since 2001. He is a multi Nā Hōkū Hanohano award recipient with the group Holunape. He is also a member of other talented Hawaiian music groups Māhiehie IV and Kāneʻohe as the ‘ukulele bass player. He enjoys teaching music and the Hawaiian Language to all who are interested.
We have set aside a dedicated space for instructors and workshop attendees to meet up to discuss their workshops, get some tips, and some more individualized attention than can be given during a workshop. Please do not monopolize an instructor's time if other attendees are waiting. Instructors' office hours do not follow a set schedule and will appear as the spirit moves them.
Highly recommended. This year was my first, I will be back and I will bring more people with me next year!

An outstanding festival for ukulele players, both beginners and experienced. The ability to interact face-to-face with the amazing guest performers, other uke players, and vendors was invaluable.

The Soiree is a great program to attend. It is well organized, with a great deal of expertise, thoughtful planning and reasonable fees. Well seasoned presenters make the sessions productive and organized!

This festival is well run, feels intimate, and really helped grow my skills and push me to be a better player. I love the teaching artists, and the jams were fun!
