Your Role Before the Jam

  • Prepare a set list - consider what your theme will be!
    • You will responsible for putting together your Jam's songbook into a Word or PDF document.
    • You will work closely with Amy to select the ideal songs for your jam. 
  • Have a range of songs from easy to intermediate so everyone can enjoy
  • Put them in play order with a Table of Contents
  • Keep a copy on your device / paper copy
  • Practice so you are familiar with the tune / words

Your Role During the Jam

  • BE ENERGETIC!! Your attitude defines the room!
  • Have a Buddy to deal with ‘maintenance’ so you can keep the music going
  • Check if anyone needs help with tuning
  • Before each song:
    • Point out any unfamiliar/more difficult chords or chord changes
    • Describe how you are going to begin and end a song
    • Note any repeats or if you’ll play a song more than one time through
    • Demonstrate the strum pattern and/or any stop chords, pauses, or time signature changes
  • Count in the song or describe your intro so everyone starts together

Be Sure to:

  • Announce your final two songs so people know how soon you’ll be finished.
  • Finish on time!

Jam Buddies

You are the glue that helps the Jam Leader keep things moving. You are there to help out with questions, assistance in tuning, getting folks to our Facebook page with the electronic copies, and just generally singing along to help keep the crowd active.
